I’ve been meaning for a while to give a review to the dogs from Mr. Gene’s Doghouse.  I’ve been to the original on the west side with Chorizoboy, but today I had a couple from the Wienie on Wheels.  During the warmer months, Mr. Gene sends out a Wienie truck to show the love to those that can’t make it to the house.

You can get the schedule of when and where the truck will be on Facebook and Twitter, or sign up to get a text when he is in your area.  My boss got a text today saying the Wienie on Wheels was going to be downtown and he promptly took up an order from everyone here.  I’m locked to my workspace for 12 hours and can’t get out, but our boss doesn’t mind going out and picking up the order.

The Mobile menu includes six different dogs, wings, fries, chili cheese fries, onion rings, drinks and desserts.  I’ve had most of the items on the menu, but for me, nothing beats the Doberman.  It’s a hot mett with chili, mustard, onions and cheese.  The bun is always nice and soft and this is my regular choice now.  That hot mett, like it says on the menu, bites back.  It has a nice lingering heat.  You don’t notice on the bite, just a little on the chew and then it kicks in.  Great hang time.  As you can see below, they don’t hold back on the cheese either.

The cost is $3.00 each, no matter which wienie you order.  If you live here or are planning to visit for a spell, look Mr. Gene up.  Delicious.

HOLA! It’s ZOOMER Season

I have a wiener I want to post, so The Weiner Count is open again for business.  The wife and I went to Oktoberfest at Mainstrasse Village in Covington two weekends ago.  Primarily, she went to hang out with me and I went to hang out with a ZOOMER!

In fact, it was this very Zoomer you see below.

A month or so ago we actually went to the little bar in Covington that is the purveyor of these wonderful tubes of meat, the Strauss Haus.  It was about 800 degrees outside but man did the AC in this little pub crank!  The bartender was a friendly sort and we have a few cheap beers each and watched some golf on the flat screen behind the bar.  The wife has a cheesesteak hoagie and I of course had the Zoomer.

Oktoberfest Zinzinnati is this weekend and I will be hunting for Zoomers after work on Sunday.  There is rumour that the Mettman may tag along for one too.  I guess there will be at least one more post here in a couple of days.

My buddy Joe in Columbus sent me this a while back.  In the world of wiener eating, this is the most impressive thing I’ve ever seen.  Unbelievable.

Now if he can just teach his future wife the same trick.

As long as both the wife and I can remember, we have always had phallic shaped meat goodies with sauerkraut on New Year Day. This includes the time before we even met as our families both had this same tradition. It’s an easy tradition to carry on, especially when you like all forms of meat links. This year was no exception.

Since I was working, the wife selected the meat she wanted and then cooked and served it up when I arrived from twelve hours at The Grind. For my first helping I had a hot Italian sausage with kraut and mustard on a bun. It wasn’t mild hot either. I was HOT! Hot enough to force me to get myself a glass of milk. For my sides I chose some delicious home-made fried potatoes, a few boiled shrimp and some raw vegetables.

Round two consisted of a slice of kielbasa with kraut.

I also had another helping of the potatoes once everyone had a shot at a first helping. I covered them in Heinz Tomato Ketchup, the only ketchup allowed in our refrigerator.

A delicious time was had by all.

A Wienerful Gift

My daughter got me this great gift for my reading glasses.  I always seem to misplace them and hopefully this will help.  It’s lined and padded for their protection.  Pretty realistic looking and I love it!
